It's time for my review of Skylight.
I really hoped I wouldn't say this after this show, but this absolutely dreadful! This was one of the worst scripts ever written. It was about two ex-lovers, Tom Sergeant and Kyra Hollis portrayed by Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan, having a huge row after Tom's ex-wife passes away and he shows up at her flat to try and rekindle things. It just seemed the whole show was about an argument. If you like boring two hour arguments that seem to go on forever and in the end render pointless as nobody gets anywhere then this is the show for you. Bill Nighy is usually a really good actor so I was disappointed with this. He was really not good in this role and was not convincing whatsoever. However I thought Carey Mulligan as Kyra Hollis and Matthew Beard as Edward Sergeant were both really good and were wasting their talents on this show. I also feel that there was too much of an age difference between Bill and Carey. The difference was 36 years! It just wan't convincing enough. I know they were trying to portray an older man and younger woman in a relationship, but 36 years it ridiculous. In my opinion they should have had a 30 year old woman and a 50 year old man. The 36 year age gap just made Bill Nighy's character seem like a paedophile. Also Bill Nighy seemed really agitated and was tap-dancing around the stage and couldn't keep his feet still, what was that about? I really didn't like this show and don't know why it was on West End and Broadway.
The featured star of Skylight is, drum roll please… CAREY MULLIGAN!
Carey is wasting her talents. She is an amazing actor and I find it a shame that she is in awful plays like this.
Now for my final verdict on Skylight. I give Skylight…
Carey Mulligan and Matthew Beard's acting saved this show from being a two star. I really hope those two move on to do better things.
