Review: American Buffalo

Hey readers!
It's time for my review of American Buffalo.
I hate to say this but this is by far one of the worst shows I have ever seen. I was really looking forward to seeing John Goodman but this was a major disappointment. The storyline was utterly atrocious. To be honest there was no storyline. It was just three depressed guys moaning about their lives. The stage just had such a dead energy. I was sitting at the back of the stalls so could hear all the cars and people talking outside, and even that was more entertaining than this show. When I saw the poster and read up about the storyline I thought it would be an adventure story about a burglary, but it seems I was tricked. The show had no action whatsoever. I find watching grass grow more exciting. It also had a really boring set of a junk shop. I even thought about leaving during the interval but decided to stay hoping that act two would get better, which it did, but not much. At the end one of the characters, Bobby, gets hit by Walter "Teach" Cole and falls on the floor bleeding. But he stays on the floor for about twenty minutes. I'm sorry but it was not necessary to stay on the floor for this long. Also at the beginning when the curtain came up John Goodman stood in a frozen position for a whole minute waiting for an applause, which didn't happen. I understand when the curtain comes up and a celebrity it standing there on Broadway everyone applauds, but that's not what happens in the West End. I felt like yelling from the audience, "Get over it John, no ones going to applaud!" Also I feel I am not alone with my comments as no one in the stalls stood up at the end of the show. To top it all off every other word in this show was the f-word. It had far too much swearing. The only good things about the show were Damian Lewis and Tom Sturridge as Walter "Teach" Cole and Bobby. These two really suited their parts and played them really well. Overall I was very disappointed with this show.

The featured star of American Buffalo is, drum roll please… TOM STURRIDGE!

Tom's acting was incredible. I felt it was a pity he was in such an awful show. I really hope that he moves on to do better shows as he really deserves to be in better shows than this.

It's time for my final verdict on American Buffalo. I give American Buffalo…

To anyone who is thinking of seeing this show, please have a long think before you do otherwise you could be wasting a lot of money as I did.

Think it should have got a higher rating? Think it should have got a lower rating? If so comment below.
