Review: Saturday Night Fever

Hey readers!
It's time for my review of Saturday Night Fever.
Now I hate to say it but I really didn't like this show. It had one of the worst story lines in the world. I don't get how this was a movie, on Broadway, in the West End and touring all over the world because to me this was so boring. The pace was too slow and it had such a flat storyline. It just seemed so depressing for a musical. Maybe they could have added a little bit comedy here and there. There just seemed to be some scenes that were so boring and I couldn't wait for the show to end.  It also had way too much swearing. Every other word was a swear word. I also felt it got dragged on too long. It may only have been two and a half hours, but I felt it should have only been two hours at the max. This was shame as I had high hopes for this show. A few good things were it did have a very good cast, especially Danny Bayne as Tony Manero, Naomi Slights as Stephanie Mangano, Bethany Linsdell as Annette and Alex Lodge as Bobby C. I also thought the set was quite good and really liked the choreography. They had some really strong dancers in the cast and this really showed during the dance contest. Finally I also loved the songs, which were the old Bee Gee's classics. It had most of the cast playing the instruments for the songs which I thought was quite a good idea and it reminded me a little bit of Once. Saturday Night Fever had been touring since November at Theatre Royal, Bath and is ending it's tour next week at New Theatre, Cardiff so if you were planning to see it at Cardiff you may be disappointed.

The featured star of Saturday Night Fever is, drum roll please… NAOMI SLIGHTS!

Naomi was a tripple-threat, amazing actor, amazing singer and amazing dancer. She managed to save the show from utter disaster. Really I think Naomi could be in better shows than this.

Now for my final verdict on Saturday Night Fever. I give Saturday Night Fever…

If Saturday Night Fever did a revamp maybe it would be slightly better, but it would not be something I would want to see again.

Think it should have got a higher rating? Think it should have got a lower rating? If so comment below.

Join me next time when I will be reviewing Gypsy.
