Review: Gypsy

Hey readers!
It's time for my review of Gypsy.
This wasn't actually what I thought it would be so this was a nice surprise. First of all the songs were amazing. They were like old traditional theatre. To go with these amazing songs they also had a great storyline, which was based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee, it tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. They had a spectacular cast, but people who stood out for me were Imelda Staunton as Momma Rose, Lara Pulver as Louise, Gemma Sutton as Dainty June, Peter Davison as Herbie, Louise Gold as Mazeppa, Julie Legrand as Electra and Anita Louise Combe as Tessie Tura. To top it all off I really liked the costumes (especially the cow). However there are a few things they need to fix before opening night. First of all the Overture and the Entr'acte went on for far too long. They went on for five minutes each! I also feel Peter Davison may need some assistance on his singing. He's a fantastic actor, but not too good on the singing side of things. I was also a little concerned for the girl who was playing Baby June as I noticed her pointe-shoe lace came undone so I would advice the people who help her with her costume to keep an eye out for this. The only other thing I have to say is that they had to have an early interval due to technical difficulties, but this is something that is likely to happen during previews. Overall I really liked this show and I am sure all these problems will be fixed for opening night.

The featured star of Gypsy is, drum roll please… IMELDA STAUNTON!

Imelda was utterly incredible! I knew she was an amazing actor, but I didn't know she was an amazing singer as well!

Now for my final verdict on Gypsy. I give Gypsy…

It may not be as good as it's proceeder, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but it still did it's best and I respect it for that.

Think it should have got a higher rating? Think it should have got a lower rating? If so comment below.
