It's time for my review of Di and Viv and Rose.
I was really lucky because just a few hours before the show I got an email offering some cheap tickets. Cheap tickets, how could I turn that down? So I decided to go along. I was glad I did because this was a great show. First of all I would to like to say well done to the cast, Tamzin Outhwaite as Di, Samantha Spiro as Viv and Jenna Russell as Rose. The three of them worked really well together. They were all portraying 18 year olds, which reminded me a little bit of Blue Remembered Hills. The chemistry between the three of them was great, the casting director definitely made the right decisions with casting. It was a very emotional play and true to life. It covered some very sad subjects and the cast really brought the message across. I especially liked the beginning of the play when they were just doing short scenes that lasted about 60 seconds each. The only thing I didn't like was that half-way through the storyline changed a bit dramatically. At first Viv and Rose had a fight and then suddenly *SPOILER ALERT* Di got raped. I feel with the argument between Viv and Rose the playwright got a bit bored of writing that scene and suddenly just abandoned ship with it. I feel they could have done a little bit of continuation before that happened to Di. Also one thing that might put people off was there was quite a bit of swearing. This was still a really fun show that will make you both laugh and cry as you follow the lives unfolding of three good friends thrown together at college digs and how there lives end up.
The featured star of Di and Viv and Rose is, drum roll please… SAMANTHA SPIRO!
Now I must admit at half-time I was thinking that either Tamzin or Jenna was going to get featured star. But Samantha did such an amazing job in the second half and overtook everyone by a mile. Her final scene with Tamzin brought me close to tears. She also was great at portraying being drunk.
Now for my final verdict on Di and Viv and Rose. I give Di and Viv and Rose…
This was a fantastic show and it closes in a few days so I beg everyone to go and see it before it closes.
